Position Description
Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration, and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions

Safely performs journeyperson level carpentry skills in the construction, maintenance, alteration, and repair of structures, buildings, and built-in components or furnishings for Texas Tech University.
Constructs, repairs and installs doors, cabinets, shelves, windows, and wood and/or glass panels. Performs altercations to existing structures by installing or removing walls, partitions, and similar construction.
Repairs and/or installs acoustical suspended ceilings, ceramic or floor tiles, brick or CMU blocks. Repairs and/or installs and finishes concrete and floor coverings. Repairs and water-proofs various types of roofs.
Maintains vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks, and vans. Secures vehicles, equipment, and areas of operation.
Assesses job or project material requirements and prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor. Reviews job or project material requirements and prepares cost estimates.

Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyperson.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years experience as a carpenter or related field.
Working knowledge of the operation and safe use of all power and hand tools/equipment common to the construction/carpentry field.
