Location: Upper East Side; Midtown; West Side

Org Unit: Carpentry Shop

Work Days: Weekdays and some weekends

Exemption Status: Non-exempt

Salary Range: $25.71 – $34.56

Position Summary

Under supervision, provides a variety of maintenance, repair, and installation services within the carpentry, hardware, and finishes field.

Job Responsibilities
Performs carpentry repair, maintenance, and installation work on various finish types around campus including wood, veneer, wall coverings, ceilings, sheetrock, plywood, etc.
Repairs, maintains, and installs hardware and hardware systems for doors, windows, cabinets, shelving, etc.
Repairs, maintains, and installs campus signage and signage systems.
Responsible for minor construction projects such as replacing ceiling systems, building partitions, repairing walls and flooring systems, etc.
Responsible for identifying necessary materials, tools, etc., required for projects.
Conducts inspections on all carpentry and finishes related items within assigned areas.
Uses computerized handhelds/smart devices to receive and adequately closeout assigned work orders daily.
Performs other assigned duties as required for proper department operation.
High School Diploma

Trade or vocational school in appropriate field preferred.

Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of industry trends and processes associated with the Carpentry and Finishes field.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers, management, and co-workers.
Licenses and Certifications
Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Ability to work on off-shifts as required to accommodate on-going operations and/or emergencies.

Ability to be available for 24 hour emergency call-ins.

Position requires working in a non-office environment where there are some physical discomforts such as noise, dust, heat, fumes and other elements which are continuously present;
Periodic work in animal research areas, work in machine rooms, crawl spaces, areas where there are odors from maintenance products, leaks, dust, dark areas, dampness, areas with restricted access, and noise.

Frequent use of ladders to perform work; Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.

Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds and push/pull objects up to 100 pounds;

Position requires the utilization of hand tools, power tools, large wrenches; operation of small to large valves; visually and audibly required to observe operating equipment; ability to walk, stand, climb ladders/scaffolds, bend, reach, lift and carry.
