Job Description

Under general supervision of fore or lead person, this position builds and repairs wood structures, partitions or furnishings. Determines the details to solve specific assignments adjusting measurements to adapt to field conditions with a limited consequence of error.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Constructs wall partitions of dry wall, paneling or other materials, acoustical ceilings, entranceways, stairways, and ramps.
Constructs various pieces of equipment such as wall and base cabinets, counterwork, bookcases, shelving, bulletin boards, radiator covers, valances and other casework.
Install vinyl, rubber or asphalt tile floors, wood or metal doors, handrails, dispensers and brackets.
Repairs or patches walls, ceilings, floors, doors, windows, hardware and furniture.
Secure office and laboratory equipment in order to prevent theft.
Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Qualifications

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Technical knowledge of simple mathematics and measurements.
Ability to read and write English of Jr. High School level.
Ability to solve semi-complex problems.
Operate hand and stationary power tools in a safe manner.
Consequence of errors is limited.
Requires occasional concentration and frequent attention to detail.
Communication skills required are moderate

EDUCATION:
Carpentry skill of trade school.

EXPERIENCE:
Three to five years of experience in the carpentry trade.
An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:
Knowledge of growth and development
Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care
Provide age specific communication

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Moderate physical ability required. Must bend, crouch, stretch, climb ladders, with constant use of hands, arms, and legs.
Ability to carry moderate to heavy materials and equipment.
Frequent exposure to sick patients and occasional exposure to laboratory test animals.
Frequent exposure to sawdust, contact cement fumes.
Occasional exposure to hot and cold weather conditions.
Negligible exposure to radioactive materials.
